Ballet

Ballet is an artistic dance form performed to music, using precise, highly formalized steps and gestures. Classical ballet, which originated in Renaissance Italy and took its present form in the 19th century, is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movement and the use of pointe work. Ballet is considered the foundation of many dance forms.
MORE INFO

Modern

Modern dance is an expressive, contemporary-rooted form that favors natural movement, breath, and weight over rigid shapes. Drawing on techniques such as contraction/release, floorwork, and dynamic shifts in level and tempo, it develops strength, mobility, and musicality while encouraging improvisation and personal voice. The result is versatile, human storytelling in motion—welcoming to newcomers and inspiring for experienced movers.

Flamenco

Flamenco is a passionate, expressive art form from Spain’s Andalusian region, known for intricate footwork, emotional intensity, and rhythmic complexity. Rooted in the traditions of Andalusia and the Roma (Romani) community with influences from Moorish and Sephardic Jewish cultures, flamenco weaves dance (baile), song (cante), guitar (toque), and handclaps (palmas) into a powerful dialogue.

Tap

Tap dance is a rhythmic, percussive style that creates music with the feet. Originating in the United States with roots in African American and Irish dance, tap blends intricate footwork, syncopation, and improvisation. Dancers wear shoes with metal plates (“taps”) on the heels and toes to produce clear sounds of shuffles, flaps, heel drops, toe taps, and time steps set to jazz, blues, or contemporary music. Celebrated for its energy, precision, and individuality, tap invites dancers to craft their own rhythms while developing musicality and performance confidence.

The Alamo City Dance Company was founded in 1991 by Nancy Grossenbacher and Scott Conway. Under the direction Mr. Conway, the Alamo City Dance Company (ACDC) was formed as a semi-professional repertory dance company. Performing a myriad of dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, classical modern, contemporary, and some forms of ethnic dance, ACDC became known as one of San Antonio's most diverse dance groups. ACDC has re-staged and commissioned numerous full length ballets for San Antonio audiences to enjoy, including The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Lepidoptera, and Dracula.
