Adult Classes — Open Level
Our open-level adult classes welcome all ages and experience levels in a warm, inclusive environment where expression is nurtured and growth is encouraged. Whether you’re brand-new or returning to dance, you’ll find a class that fits your goals.


What we offer

  • Clear instruction with options for beginners and challenges for experienced dancers

  • Modifications provided so everyone trains safely and confidently

Adult Ballet (Ages 15+)

Adult Ballet — Ages 15+

What we focus on
  • Refining ballet technique, alignment, and musicality
  • Building confidence for returning dancers and late beginners
  • Clear, supportive coaching with options for different experience levels
How it works
  • Warm-up at the barre: posture/alignment, core engagement, pliés, tendus, dégagés, rond de jambe
  • Center work: port de bras, balances, adagio, tendu/dégagé phrases, pirouette preparations and turns
  • Allegro: small jumps (petit allegro), traveling steps, simple combinations
  • Cool-down: gentle stretch and release to support recovery
What you’ll build
  • Clean technique and safe body mechanics
  • Strength, flexibility, balance, and control
  • Musicality, phrasing, and confidence
Placement & notes
  • Prior ballet basics recommended; modifications offered for returning dancers

Adult Folklorico (Ages 15+)

Teen/Adult Folklórico — Ages 15+ (Open Level)

What we focus on
  • Joyful zapateado (footwork), clear rhythms, and musical confidence
  • Faldeo (skirt work) and braceo (arms/hands); hat handling as appropriate
  • Short, expressive combinations inspired by regional styles (e.g., Jalisco, Veracruz)
  • Cultural context—history, symbolism, and etiquette that inform the movement
  • Ensemble skills: spacing, facings, unison, and performance presence
How it works
  • Truly open level: options for newcomers and challenges for experienced dancers
  • Warm, supportive pacing with clear demos and upbeat music
  • Skirt/hat work introduced progressively; no partner required
  • Occasional opportunities to perform (always optional)
Requirements
  • Attire: black shirt or leotard; black bike shorts, tights, or leggings; hair secured off the face
  • Footwear: folklórico shoes/boots; practice skirt recommended (instructor will advise on specifics)
  • All levels welcome—no prior folklórico experience required

Adult Tap (Ages 15+)

Adult Tap — Ages 15+ (Open Level)

What we focus on
  • Rhythms, musicality, and clean sound in a welcoming, open-level class—great for first-timers and returners
How it works

  • Warm-up & articulation: Alignment, ankle–foot mobility, sound-clarity drills
  • Technique: Foundational steps (shuffles, flaps, heel/toe drops, ball-change, time steps); progressing as appropriate to cramp rolls, paradiddles (paddle & roll), Maxie Fords, buffalo
  • Across the floor: Traveling rhythms, weight shifts, rhythm turns, direction changes
  • Combination/choreography: Short routines that build timing, clarity, and pickup/retention
Musicality & style
  • Counting, syncopation, and dynamic contrast (light vs. strong sounds)
  • Exposure to Broadway and rhythm-tap approaches
  • Guided improvisation to develop creativity and personal style
What you’ll build
  • Clean sound, coordination, and timing
  • Confidence and performance quality
  • Appreciation for tap’s history and musical roots
Notes
  • Open level: material is adapted for beginners and experienced tappers—progress at your own pace

Adult Jazz/Hip-Hop (Ages 15+)

Adult Jazz/Hip-Hop — Ages 15+ (Open Level)

What we focus on
  • A fun fusion of clean jazz lines and hip-hop grooves welcoming first-timers and returning dancers alike

How it works
  • Warm-up & conditioning: Mobility, isolations, core/leg strength, groove drills
  • Technique: Jazz alignment, turn preps, kicks; hip-hop grooves, footwork, level changes (standing ↔ floor)
  • Across the floor: Chassés, pas de bourrée / ball-change patterns, traveling grooves and rhythm drills
  • Combination/choreography: Short routines blending jazz dynamics with hip-hop musicality; quick pickup/retention
Musicality & style
  • Counting, accents, and syncopation
  • Performance quality and confidence
  • Light freestyle prompts to develop personal style
What you’ll build
  • Coordination, stamina, and control
  • Clean lines, groove, and stage presence

Adult Barre/Stretch (Ages 15+)

Adult Barre/Stretch — Ages 15+ (Open Level)
A low-impact class blending ballet-inspired barre work with focused stretching to build strength, alignment, and flexibility. Welcomes beginners and returning movers alike.


What we focus on
  • Strength, alignment, and mobility through safe, accessible sequences
  • Clear technique cues and modifications for every level
  • Breath, recovery, and body awareness
How it works
  • Barre series: posture/alignment, core & glute strength, hip/knee/ankle stability, small-range isometrics
  • Center & mat: mobility flows, dynamic then static stretching, breathwork for release and recovery
  • Props & options: light weights, resistance bands, or ball as available; instructor provides level-appropriate variations
What you’ll build
  • Stronger core, legs, and glutes
  • Improved flexibility and range of motion
  • Better posture, balance, and body awareness — plus stress relief
Notes
  • Open level: go at your own pace; options offered throughout
  • Footwear/dress code: socks or ballet slippers (grippy socks recommended); comfortable attire
  • What to bring: water bottle; a mat if you prefer your own (studio props provided when available)
